1. Introduction
What would you do if your competitor received state aid? There are four possible options: do nothing, also ask for state aid, complain to the European Commission or initiate proceedings before a national court against the public authority that granted the aid. The problem is that not all of these options are open to all companies all the time. And, they all have their advantages and disadvantages.
The purpose of the article is to examine under which conditions each of these options is available and what the advantages and disadvantages may be. It seems rather obvious that there is no need to examine the option of "do nothing".
